01/15/10 room, night - So after shower time I went into the living room to say good night to my host mom. She was watching some news channel that was showing President Obama. So we talked about him for a while and then got off on other topics and before I knew it I got back up here and it was 10:00. Let’s see I left off at arriving back at the house. I opened the door (which I have officially mastered) and said hi to my host mom. She served tea and bread and asked if I wanted milk (to which I answered yes of course!) and gave me a pamphlet of Children’s festival for me to look at and some stamps with different animes on them. She also gave me a new bottle of tea to drink. I went up to my room and checked email and did Pilates. Ok that sounds weird but there’s a reasonable explanation. I took Pilates at the University of Rochester twice a week and got to know the instructor pretty well. His name is Nick and he is awesome. Anyway I told him I would be in Japan next semester and that I wanted to continue Pilates b/c I feel great when I do them and I feel like crap when I don’t (same with yoga). I asked if he would send me homework to do. He agreed and I received my first Pilates homework assignment from America a few days ago. He emailed me a list of stuff to do on my own. So I did the list. It was hard finding a wide enough space on my floor! So that’s my reasonable explanation, take it or leave it. :) I felt good about myself for exercising and I went back downstairs to hang in the kitchen with my host mom. Dinner was almost ready and I was just loafing around looking at stuff when a bright tiny something caught my eye. It was a little pouch made out of paper. My host mom saw me looking at it and said I could have it. I turned it over and it was actually a toothpick holder!! Only in Japan; I love it! My host mom keeps giving me things including a hat to keep my mimi (ears) warm and of course her wonderful cooking. She always cooks Japanese style food, which makes me so very happy. :D Eating is one of my greatest joys in life. So if I am well fed on high quality food I generally have no complaints. My host mom is so awesome.
After dinner we each had a mikan and then I started writing these entries. I am excited to go to sleep moderately early :D. I hope I can keep up with the blog once classes really get going. Isshokenmei yarimasu!! (I will do my best!) 22:19 (J time)
